Ithaca Rotarians Spring Rt 13 Highway Cleanup
Saturday, April 20, 9-11am, Lansing
Calling all volunteers!  The Ithaca Rotary Club is seeking volunteers from the community to join Rotarians to help clean a section of Rt. 13, from the Stewart Park to the Triphammer exits. The cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 20  (Earth Day Weekend) and we will meet at 9:00 am at the Tops Triphammer Road parking lot.  We gather as a group, then break into small teams and head out to clean the highway for about 2 hours. All necessary supplies needed for the cleanup will be provided including gloves, hard hats, vests, garbage bags and picker uppers. Dress for the weather and be sure to wear sturdy shoes. If rain is forecast, we will postpone to another date. This is a fun project and we encourage community volunteers to help us keep the gateway to our community free from trash and looking good. If you can join, please contact Ithaca Rotarian Bob Gravani, bobgravani@gmail.com.

Earth Day Celebration to follow at Hopshire Farm & Brewery, 2-5pm, all are welcome!

A good portion of the road frontage is along a rather busy state highway, but volunteers can stay inside of a guardrail for the vast majority of this stretch of road.  Volunteers will be required to wear a Hi-Vis safety vest and signs will be placed along the road to alert drivers. Vests will be provided, but if you have a favorite one, please feel free to bring it. Sturdy hiking boots or sneakers are required. Parking directions and instructions will be shared before the event. This event will be capped at 20 participants, so please only RSVP if you know you can be there. Newfield Greenup Day 2024
Saturday, April 27, registration 9am-12pm, Newfield
Rain date: Saturday, May 11
The registration table will be set up in front of the Newfield Town Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on April 27th.  At the registration table each person/group will register what strip of road they are covering, get a handout for guidelines, get black bags for trash and white bags for recycling, and borrow grabbers and any other equipment as available from the Cayuga Watershed Network.  All borrowed equipment is to be returned to a bin in front of the Newfield Town Hall by the end of the day on Saturday, April 27th.  This is so that the Cayuga Watershed Network can retrieve the equipment and make it available for other future cleanup events.  All bags of trash and recycling will be left at/near the nearest intersection to the strip of road that each individual/group is registered at.  Then the registry of the roads that we cover will be given to the Newfield Highway Department and they will pick up all of the Newfield Greenup Day bags on the following Monday, April 29th and deliver all that is collected to the Tompkins County Waste & Recycling Center. It is very important to register what road area that you are covering so that the Newfield Highway Department knows where to pick up what we collect. Any questions can be directed to Newfield Greenup Day Organizer, Mitch Raymond, at mitchraymond614@gmail.com.
