Six Mile Creek Partnership

Burns Road to Banks Road - Segment 3

This segment of the creek contains two restoration projects: the City of Ithaca Silt Dam and the Burns Road to German Cross Road Stabilization Project upstream of the silt dam.

The Silt Dam Site is located upstream of Burns Road and immediately upstream from the City of Ithaca's upper reservoir.

The objective is to improve riparian habitat and reduce sediment runoff into the silt pond. Ecologic, LLC is working with the City of Ithaca to develop a management plan for the silt removal operation. Planned activities include: road improvements, stormwater controls, and re-vegetation. The plan is expected to be finalized in April 2004 with construction undertaken during the summer of 2004. The project is made possible by NYS Department of State and US Department of Agriculture funds.

Burns Road to German Cross Road Stabilization Project will decrease silt loading to the City of Ithaca's silt pond by using natural channel design techniques to stabilize the creek. There are 12 monitoring cross sections within this reach.

The first survey has been completed and a second survey will be completed winter 2003-2004. Carl Schwartz of US Fish and Wildlife Service will lead the design phase and oversee implementation. Funding provided through the NYS Clean Water/Clean Air Bond Act.
