Six Mile Creek Partnership

Van Nattas Dam to Burns Road - Segment 2

This segment includes the Mulholland Wildflower Preserve. Cornell University students in a restoration ecology class with Professor Thomas Whitlow worked with the Natural Areas Commission to assess three areas of concern:

  • An unkempt-looking meadow that is adjacent to the preserve's parking area
  • An eroding trail along the stream bank approx. 200 meters upstream of the parking area
  • A deer path along a steep area just downstream from a high-cut river bank

The work included studying soil loss, infiltration/runoff, stream cross-sections, and historical air photographs in order to create management and restoration recommendations. A report on the three areas is expected in January 2004.
