Keith Tidball lives with his family in the Canoga Creek sub-watershed,
overlooking Canoga Marsh. Yellow Creek, a tributary of Canoga Creek,
is a significant feature of their farm. Keith and Moira were married
in County Cork, Ireland, though Keith was raised in the Great lakes
region, (Minnesota and Michigan) and Moira has deep family roots
in and around the Finger Lakes region. They are glad to be raising
their two daughters, Victoria and Charlotte, on the shores of Cayuga
Lake.
Keith earned academic degrees focused on Rural and Agrarian Societies
and Agricultural and International Affairs. He has worked extensively
with agricultural water quality issues and watershed approaches
to conservation, both domestically and internationally, most recently
through Cooperative Extension and Cornell University.
In addition to serving on the Cayuga Lake Watershed Network Board,
Keith serves on the Town of Fayette Planning Board and is the Chair
of the new Towns of Fayette and Varick Joint Comprehensive Planning
Commission. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, sporting
dog breeds, art & antiquities and writing.
Keith notes, “We model our lives here at Canoga Creek Farm
after Virgil’s Latin motto Labor omnia vincit improbus
or ‘Work conquers everything.’ In that vein, we strive
to understand our work in terms of conservation as an agricultural
enterprise. Our watershed is what gives our farm its potential as
a place of victory, of accomplishment, as well as its qualities
of tranquility and repose. Therefore, our family philosophy is one
that includes watershed stewardship as a core value, and community
participation and involvement are ways in which that value is expressed.”
