Julie Patterson and her husband Jon live in Aurelius on their 600
cow dairy farm and are the sixth generation of Pattersons on their
farm where they both work full time.
She received her bachelor's degree in accounting in May of 1999,
and is responsible for the bookwork, payroll, ordering, human resources,
as well as working at the barn and helping with the crops.
They have been separating and composting their manure since September
1999, and she is currently researching new markets for the composted
manure to export some of the nutrients off the farm.
They feel it is very important to leave the land in better shape
than it was when they began managing it, and realize that our environment
has to be protected. The Pattersons are trying to find new ways
to achieve that goal.
Julie Patterson grew up spending time on Cayuga Lake and she wants
that same opportunity for future generations. Her mother, Connie
Tallcot, set a very good example while Julie was growing up by being
very involved with their community, and Julie looks forward to the
opportunity to serve her community.
