Cayuga Lake Watershed Network
Doc. #2008-
Outreach Committee Telecon
June 24, 2008

Present: Kari Richardson, Rachel Singley, Roxy Johnston, Judy Morehouse, Judy Pipher

We discussed the various aspects of Lakefest still to be tied down.

Jim and Barb Courtright have volunteered to man the Network display, and will provide wooden cutout critter magnets for the kids to color. Their daughter Debbie has agreed to do the face painting.

In addition to the 30 loaves of white bread Judy M acquired from Freihofers, Rachel indicated that she will be able to get 1-day old bread from the Bakery she works at (Brötchen) and will give surplus wheat/rye (non-white sliced) loaves to Roxy to freeze. They will coordinate timing.

Judy M. will try Tops in Auburn and Big M in Union Springs (assuming that Julie did not have time to do so) to see whether they would supply vouchers for purchase of food for the lunch.

Roxy can supply tomatoes, onions and lettuce or equivalent – (they will need to be pre-washed) and she has a mandolin dicer (and Judy P will buy a couple at Sauder’s to bring to Lakefest) so we are all set there.

Judy P and Judy M will go around to all of the markets on the Friday the 22nd, and purchase meat, cheese etc. If we get a gift certificate from Walmarts Waterloo (find out 2nd week July) they will buy all the condiments, paper/plastic products we need there. Otherwise, will get elsewhere.

Discussed ice cream. Roxy hasn’t heard from either creamery on Rte 89 – Judy will ascertain whether Seneca County Dairy Princess available, and whether they would bring ice cream. (Cheese/milk not of interest).

Judy M has secured promise of 12 tables and 30 chairs from Fayette FD, Network office has 2 lightweight, 3 heavy, and Judy P has 1 lightweight, one heavy. Judy P will match tables to needs and we will reassess. Don’t have all the commitments for displays in yet.

Roxy mentioned Acorn project will attend Lakefest, with hand-made sustainable products for classroom fundraisers, and she will tell them to finalize by contacting Judy P and tell them they need to provide a table and chairs.

Judy M reported that CCE was participating (Roxy had asked them but not heard back). Judy M contacted Linda Lawrence Wednesday am and asked mail forwarded to Master Gardener Patti Payne, who was Roxy’s contact.

Judy M. suggested contacting Bonadent for funding – Judy P followed up with letter, and will call them.

Everyone should contact Ruth Richardson (water.ruth@gmail.com) concerning door prize/silent auction items. She needs a volunteer to work with her – Roxy thought she may be able to supply one to pick up etc. Rachel will make 2 potholder sets.

Judy P will call Kevin re: critters. He had previously offered same to Julie, but we need commitment.

Kari has a “bagful of tricks” she will bring for entertainment of the kids. Nominally 2:30 – 3:00pm, but this could certainly be extended (they won't be interested in awards).

Judy P will contact FD and see if the 2nd tent is available (although that probably isn’t necessary since Julie still plans to supply) – at the same time follow up on transport of the tables and chairs.

Next call

July 10th (Thursday) at 8:00 pm
