Outreach Committee Telecon

Present: Julie Patterson, Roxy Johnston, Judy Pipher

Julie reported on the financial status of the Board, and on the fact that the Board did not feel we gave enough detail concerning the poster contest. We would have to find a contest sponsor, and all aspects of the contest would have to be volunteer. The Board suggested we plan it for 2009.

The Outreach Committee therefore doesn’t have any projects for 2008 beyond WWW support and Lakefest support. And Lakefest is also uncertain. We do not plan further work on SOW or Budgets until some of this is clarified. Lakefest must be organized by March for the Finger Lakes Vacation Guide.. Sharon estimates Lakefest costs $13000 of which only $5000 is volunteer time.

Should we continue to do Lakefest? We will discuss going back to our roots (where the office wasn’t involved at all, and where the whole event was less sophisticated) and getting sponsorship, perhaps at a winery. A brainstorming meeting at Julie’s house is planned for Friday Feb 1, 10am. We discussed Lakefest as being separate from the Annual Meeting, and will discuss further at the brainstorming meeting.

Other volunteers for our committee to notify include: Kim Bostwick (Julie will contact ); Judy Morehouse (Judy P. will contact); Kari Richards (Roxy will contact).

We learned of a Spring conference in April, planned by Sharon. The Outreach Committee isn’t involved in this or other planned efforts, so perhaps we ought to rename our committee.
