Outreach Committee Telecon

Present: Julie Patterson, Sharon Anderson, Judy Pipher

1. Lakefest Retrospective continued:
Sharon would like to continue having one point-person in charge of each event, such as registration table, door prizes etc. That person would be responsible for telling the committee how many tables needed, and identifying what paperwork needed, etc. or timing of various aspects. In other words, a clear plan throughout Lakefest itself including being available when questions arise.

Judy will compile all comments relating to this year’s Lakefest and send to Diane for next year’s consideration.

Sharon solicited comments from attendees. The consensus was that there were great activities for kids, but the annual meeting in the middle provided an activities disconnect. The reason for it was to have a greater attendance at the annual meeting. We discussed several options including
· having annual meeting at the beginning before lunch
· separating the annual meeting from Lakefest, having it attached perhaps to a “Health of the Lake” report, an evening event.
· Perhaps changing the bylaws so that annual meeting need not be in August

There were more activities than time this year – if we retain the same number of activities perhaps parallel rather than serial activities should be encouraged.

2. The PR Committee and the 10th year celebration
Julie reported that the PR committee is beginning to think of activities to celebrate our 10th year – and would like the Outreach Cte. to help. Julie will attend the first meeting/telecon they have so that she can report back to the OC

3. Essay Contest Terminates; Launch of Artwork/Photography Contest
We decided at the end of the 2007 Essay Contest that it had run its course. We discussed implementing a Drawing/Painting/Photography contest instead. Julie will raise the issue at the next Board Meeting on October 9. With their concurrence (and ideas) we will begin to structure this contest. We need guidelines and a contest title or slogan. Sharon, on the Board of the North American Lakes Management Society, says that they have a poster contest (perhaps our winners can submit in their next contest).
