Cayuga Lake Watershed Network
Doc. #2007-26
Outreach Committee Telecon
April 12, 2007
Present: Diane Emmons, Roxy Johnston, Judy Pipher
This telecon focused on Lakefest planning primarily.
Lakefest
Tables - Diane reports that Sharon plans to buy 4 only
(3 to date): available storage limits the number purchased.. They
are six-foot plastic tables which fold in half. We (Judy and Roxy)
had thought that we would buy all that were needed because borrowing
them has become very difficult. That would make the difficulty a
non-issue. JP to determine how many last year. (We borrowed a total
of 10 tables last year according to Judy’s stored e-mail.)
This will need to be discussed further with Sharon.
Membership mailing with a poster to be sent out early the week
of the 16th of April – Diane is modifying last year’s
poster. Sharon needs an article by April 30 for the newsletter.
JP will provide draft and send to Roxy –she will modify and
send on.
The news story was sent out to FL Times for their summer edition.
The Post Standard doesn’t yet need the story (Diane has the
check list).
Wells has confirmed a $700 contribution to Lakefest. Sharon thinks
we should plan for 200-250 people. Since Wells has provided drink
containers/dispensers we need to ask Niamh whether it would be possible
this year as long as someone local could pick them up the day of
Lakefest and return them that day. JP asked.
Music equipment needs to be reserved at Hickeys. JP should reserve
it.
Food Donations? Thought we should buy at Shur-Sav again. DE will
order. Other years we have asked Wegmans and Tops for donations
– its unclear whether a $25 gift card is worth it.
Sharon spoke to Dennis and confirmed that the RV Haendel will be
at Farmer’s Market that day – across channel. He gave
her tickets for door prizes. RJ will follow up with Dennis as to
whether a smaller boat will be available.
Door prizes will be mentioned in the press releases a bit closer
to Lakefest.
DE will go through the assignment list and encourage Board signups
at the June and July meetings.
Essay contest
Should the essay contest continue? Probably not for a few years.
Judy suggested a poster contest for Middle school students –
Roxy suggested we hang up entries at a local mall to advertise the
Network. Sharon had suggested a photo contest. Since Julie’s
availability unknown to read essays, Judy and Roxy will split up
the remaining. RJ to provide essay grades asap to JP.
Website reorganization
JP reported that she and Sharon met with Bryan. - we ended up discussing
possibility of a very nice new software package (not Dreamweaver)
for web editing. Sharon is considering the costs. Meanwhile, JP
will begin placing content in appropriate folders, starting on the
resources tab.
Membership on Committee and Other
Kari Richards will support Earthday April 22 and water week May
4-5 for CWN. Diane needs materials laminated. RJ has available a
machine which handles 8.5 x 14.
New members CWN OC – SA suggested Kari as associate member.
She can’t telecon during the day. Her interest is in hands-on
stuff - Committee agrees enthusiastically.
Judy Morehouse is another possible member - JP will ask her.
Next meeting is tentatively scheduled for 12:30pm 10 May. All should
confirm availability.
Submitted,
Judy Pipher
