Doc. # 2011-
Issues Committee Meeting
Cayuga Lake Watershed Network
January 6, 2011

Present: : Ruth R (chair), John Mawdsley, Hilary Lambert (Steward), Doug Haith.
Absent: Brian Boerman, Keith Tidball, Roxy Johnson, David Stilwell.

Agenda:
1. Dashboard next steps
2. Finalizing top Issues 2011 and writing up short summaries for each
3. Program for 2011
4. Coal ash update if any.
5. Spring Conference
6. Any other business
7. Next meeting: finding new time/day for meetings.

1. Dashboard next steps
With the 10 indicators John selected (plus, perhaps, Fisheries as an 11th) we will split into teams for each and assess the indicators. John and Ruth will work on 2 indicators (Lake Monitoring and Municipal Spending) and present a strawman of the writeup/assessment at the next IC meeting.

Based on a request from Roxy, the Dashboard project will be presented to the IO on their Jan 26th meeting. Roxy and John to work out who presents and the powerpoint presentation details.

2. Finalizing top Issues 2011 and writing up short summaries for each
The top three for 2011: Septics, Marcellus Shale, and the Dashboard. A fourth (if we feel we have “capcity” for it would be “Invasives” (including animal and plant/wees). Doug was willing to champion this fourth one.
Therefore the Issues 2011 will be:
1. Dashboard
2. Marcellus Shale
3. Septics
(4., if enough capacity: Invasives)

3. Program for 2011
The programming retreat is scheduled for Jan 11th at Wells. The IC members present (actually only Doug, Ruth & John) felt fine about John and Ruth representing the IC at that meeting where the Issues for 2011 would be presented.

4. Coal ash update if any.
Hilary and John plan to visit the DEC office in Syracuse to look over the discharge permits on Jan 11th.

5. Spring Conference
The IC was generally supportive of the theme of “Wetlands” (redux) suggested by the program committee (as relayed by Roxy). With a backup (if Montezuma can’t host it) of “Issues around the lake” mix of talks – maybe even the same slate as in Fall 2010 in Ithaca just up at the north end. Judy Pipher will work with Tom Jasikoff about April or May dates.

An idea for a future (Fall 2011?) conference proposed by Doug: “Septics” (to be in line with our Septics as a CLWN Issue for 2011)

6. Any other business
Ruth can’t recall any other business being raised.

7. Next meeting: finding new time/day for meetings.
The next meeting will be in early Feb. A doodle poll will go out to arrange a regular monthly day/time in Ithaca.
